Google Ads Editor Version 2.9: What’s New?
Google has released a new update for Google Ads Editor, bringing several changes and improvements for advertisers. This latest version, Google Ads Editor 2.9, introduces new features, removes older ones, and requires Mac users to upgrade to MacOS 12 or later to continue using it.
If you’re using older versions (2.5 or below), the Editor will no longer support them. Make sure to update to keep your campaigns running smoothly. You can download the latest version here.
Key Updates in Google Ads Editor 2.9
Manager Account (MCC) Labels Now Supported
Businesses using Google Ads Manager Accounts (MCC) can now apply labels to campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and ads in each associated account. However, you can’t create, update, or edit these labels in Editor—only assign them.
Shopping Ads on Previously Excluded Brands
Retail advertisers can now opt to have their Performance Max Shopping Ads appear on search terms related to brands that would have been previously excluded.
Auto-Generated Vertical Videos for Responsive Video Ads
Google Ads can now create vertical videos automatically for Video Views campaigns (formerly standard Video campaigns with Target CPV bidding). This helps make ads look better on mobile devices.
Masthead Ads Management
Advertisers can now create and manage Masthead ads, a premium ad format usually displayed at the top of YouTube’s homepage.
Limited Support for Lift Measurement
You can now add or remove campaigns for lift measurement, which helps track the impact of your ads on brand awareness.
Shorter Demand Gen Video Ads with AutoTrim
You can now enable or disable AutoTrim, which automatically creates shorter versions of your Demand Gen Video ads for better performance.
New Conversion Tool for Video Ad Groups (VRC)
Google is replacing VRC 1.0 campaigns with VRC 2.0, adding more control for advertisers. If you try to copy a VRC 1.0 ad group into a VRC 2.0 campaign, an error will appear. The new “Convert” link allows you to quickly modify ad groups to meet new requirements, making the transition smoother.
Age-Based Exclusions in Performance Max Campaigns
Advertisers using Performance Max campaigns can now exclude specific age groups at the campaign level.
End of Enhanced CPC for Certain Bidding Strategies
If you use Enhanced CPC with Maximize Clicks or Manual CPC bidding for Search or Display campaigns, Google Ads Editor will now show an error message because this combination is no longer supported.
Restrictions on Content Exclusions for Video Ads
Content exclusions, which help control where ads appear, are now ONLY available for Search Standard and Display campaigns. Video and Demand Gen campaigns will no longer support these exclusions.
New Customer Acquisition Goal in Shopping Campaigns
Previously available only for Search and Performance Max campaigns, the new customer acquisition goal is now supported in Shopping campaigns too.
Better Google Sheets Export and Import Options
- You can now export your ads data to Google Sheets, with each entity type on a separate tab. This makes it easier to manage data.
- When exporting, you can apply color highlights to show local edits more clearly.
- Multi-tab spreadsheets can also be imported.
Inventory Control for Demand Gen Campaigns
Google Ads Editor now includes support for managing channels under Demand Gen campaigns.
Fixing Deep Link Errors
A new “Fix misconfigured deep links” recommendation is now available. Clicking “Get Started” will open the Deep Link Validator tool, helping advertisers fix broken links in their ads.
New “Pause Ad Image” Field for Video Ads
A new optional field called “Pause ad image” has been added for responsive video ads. This is mainly used for “Pause ads” in Video reservation campaigns, but can be applied in any video campaign.
Ad Preview for Responsive Search Ads (RSA) and Asset Groups
A new Ad Preview link lets advertisers see a realistic preview of their Responsive Search Ads and Asset Groups with local edits. This helps ensure ads look just right before going live.
Deprecated Features
VRC 1.0 Video Campaign
Support for VRC 1.0 Video Campaigns has been discontinued in favor of VRC 2.0, which provides more advanced features.
