New App Store Features: Smarter Search, AI-Powered Reviews, and Better Developer Tools

What’s New in the App Store

Apple has rolled out several exciting updates to the App Store, making it easier for users to discover apps, understand reviews, and for developers to effectively promote their apps. Here’s a breakdown of the key updates in a simple and easy-to-understand way.

Summarized Reviews for Apps (Beta)

Starting with iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4, users will see a short summary of app reviews directly on the App Store page. Instead of scrolling through numerous reviews, they can quickly glance at the key points. These summaries are created using smart AI technology and update at least once a week if the app has enough reviews.

Users can even tap and hold the summary to report any issues. Developers can also monitor reviews through App Store Connect. Currently, this feature is available in English for selected apps in the U.S. and will expand to more languages and regions over time.

Improved App Store Search

Searching for apps has become smarter! The App Store search now includes:

  • App Tags: Quick descriptions that highlight key features of an app.
  • Everyday Language Search: Users can search with natural sentences, making it easier to find exactly what they need.

These improvements are first rolling out in the U.S. in English and will expand globally soon. For more details, visit App Store Search.

New Advanced Commerce API for Developers

Apple has launched the Advanced Commerce API, helping developers manage in-app purchases more flexibly. This is especially useful for apps with large content libraries, subscription models, and add-ons. Developers can apply for access and continue to use the reliable App Store payment system for smooth transactions.

New Marketing Tools for Developers

Featuring Nominations

Developers can now submit requests for their apps to be featured on the App Store. This includes new app launches, updates, and special in-app events. Apple’s editorial team will then consider them for promotion. Learn more about getting featured on the App Store.

App Marketing with Social Media Assets

Developers can now generate professional marketing assets (such as banners and images) through App Store Connect and share them on social media to promote their app more effectively. This makes it easier to celebrate moments like being featured as App of the Day!

Custom App Pages with Deep Links

Now, when users open an app from a custom App Store page, they’ll land directly on the feature or content being highlighted rather than just the app’s home screen. Developers can link Apple Search Ads to these deep links for a seamless user experience.

Fewer Screenshot Requirements

App Store now requires only one screenshot per device type (i.e., one screenshot for iPhone apps and one for iPad apps). This makes it easier for developers to submit apps without worrying about multiple screenshot sizes.

New Subscription Offer Features

Win-Back Offers for Expired Subscribers

Developers can create incentives to encourage people to resubscribe with special discounts. Examples of where these offers might appear:

  • On the App Store product page
  • As a pop-up invite within the app
  • In a direct email campaign
  • In Subscription Settings

Subscription Offer Codes for macOS

Developers can now provide promo codes for discounts or free trials on macOS apps. These codes can be shared online or offline, and users can redeem them via a link or directly within the app.
